Progress report on Tropical Storm Melissa: Friday, Oct. 24 update from the National Hurricane Center
At 2 p.m. Friday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Tropical Storm Melissa is in the Caribbean Sea, 185 miles southeast of Kingston Jamaica and 260 miles southwest of Port Au Prince Haiti. The system is moving east-southeast at 1 mph, with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.
Hurricane Melissa, which is stronger than Hurricane Katrina, is set to bring catastrophic winds, flash flooding and high storm surges to the island of Jamaica.
