Cuts across the gaming industry continue to unfold as big tech shifts. The latest company to see major job cuts is Amazon, with the company confirming on Tuesday that it is laying off 14,000 employees.
Amid sweeping layoffs that began throughout ecommerce giant Amazon Tuesday, the company is making "significant" changes to its video games business.
While the servers will keep the game running through 2026, the MMO will cease to receive new content after Season 10 ends.
It's been reported that Amazon has laid off thousands of employees, including the entire team behind New World.
New World originally launched on PC in 2021, with the Aeternum edition coming out on PS5 and Xbox in 2024. What seemed like a new era for the MMO ended up being cut short. If the game disappears in the coming years, at least part of it will live on in the Secret Level episode set in its universe.
Earlier this week, Amazon's games division confirmed that it is ending support for MMORPG New World on both PC and consoles.
